1 year in jail after flunking probation

In August 2020, a probation officer reported that Edward Lowell Canada Jr. tested positive for methamphetamine, failed to pay a $258 balance on his fine, failed to attend the DUI school, failed to complete substance abuse counseling, and failed to forfeit his tag for 10 days.

STARKE— Edward Lowell Canada Jr. was arrested for DUI on April 20, 2019, after he crashed his white Chevrolet Cruze into a curb and sidewalk near Starke’s Colley Road and South Water Street.

A Starke police officer wrote in an arrest report that the defendant had two previous DUI convictions.

In June 2019, County Judge D. Tatum Davis sentenced Canada to 30 days in jail and 12 months’ probation. Davis imposed a $2,000 fine on the now-52-year-old and ordered him to install an ignition interlock device on his vehicle for two years, attend a DUI school, surrender his tag for 10 days, complete substance abuse counseling, and submit to random drug screenings. 

In August 2020, a probation officer reported that Canada tested positive for methamphetamine, failed to pay a $258 balance on his fine, failed to attend the DUI school, failed to complete substance abuse counseling, and failed to forfeit his tag for 10 days.

On December 18, Davis terminated the defendant’s probation and ordered him to jail for 364 days, crediting Canada for 53 days served.
