Naketa Barnes, 34, of Palm Bay, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 19 for resisting an officer, driving with a suspended or revoked license, possession of drugs, possession of drug equipment, and reckless driving.
According to an arrest report, Deputy T. Lovell saw a southbound green motorcycle passing cars at a high rate of speed on U.S. 301 north of the bypass. The deputy clocked the two-wheeler at 101 mph in a 65-mph zone.
“I made a U-turn in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, at which point the motorcycle accelerated at a high rate of speed, continuing south,” the officer wrote. “I notified Trooper Palmer with the Florida Highway Patrol of the situation. Trooper Palmer was in front of the motorcycle.”
Lovell added that when Barnes tried to pass the trooper, Palmer stopped the motorcycle.
Lovell added that as he approached the bike, he saw a plastic baggie inside the rider’s helmet near her mouth. The substance inside the plastic tested positive for methamphetamine.
A check with dispatch revealed the driver did not possess a valid license.
“I asked Naketa why she ran, and she advised ‘she was scared,’” reported Lovell. “I inquired about the methamphetamine and Naketa advised she has been addicted for ten years.”
