2 KHHS players earn 1st-team All-Clay County football honors

Eight Keystone Heights High School football players were recognized with the release of the All-Clay County selections, with Cartez Daniels and Garrison Teague earning first-team honors.

The school also had student-athletes honored in cross country and golf.

Daniels rushed for 850 yards and 13 touchdowns on 164 carries. He led the team in carries, yards and touchdowns (rushing or receiving).

Teague, a tight end, caught six passes for 96 yards and three touchdowns in four games.

Three defensive players earned second-team honors: lineman Jackson Herman and defensive backs Bryce Hollingsworth and Wyatt Van Zant. Herman had 23 tackles and one interception in five games. Hollingsworth had 14 tackles and two sacks in four games, while Van Zant had 29 tackles and an interception in all 10 games.

Punter Connor Guy and placekicker Tyler Sapp earned honorable mention.

Guy averaged 37.5 yards per attempt, with a long of 57 yards. He placed 10 punts inside the opponent’s 10-yard line.

Sapp went 23 of 25 on extra-point attempts and 2 of 2 on field-goal attempts. His longest field goal was 25 yards.

In girls cross country, Olivia Griffin was a first-team selection. She placed 40th out of 119 at the district level with a time of 22:20 and 40th out of 118 at the regional level with a time of 21:37.

Tyler Griffin was a second-team selection in boys cross country. He placed 22nd out of 138 at the district level with a time of 18:10 and 23rd out of 117 at the regional level with a time of 17:56. Griffin earned a state-finals berth, becoming the first Keystone boy to do so in cross country since 2018.

At state, Griffin was 141st out of 240 with a time of 18:32.

Ryder Thomas earned honorable mention in cross country. He had a 26th-place time of 18:22 at the district level and placed 69th at the regional level with a time of 19:07.

Keystone had two named to the second team in boys golf: Alex Addington and Connor Guy.

Guy was the individual champion at the District 3-1A meet with an 18-hole of score of 72. Addington was fourth in the 42-golfer field with a score of 80.

The duo helped Keystone win its third straight district title as a team.

At the Region 1 meet, Guy finished in a five-way tie for 12th with an 18-hole score of 78. Addington was in a four-way tie for 22nd with a score of 81. The field consisted of 72 golfers.
