The Keystone Heights High School girls soccer team was seeking its fourth straight win, but the Indians fell 4-3 to host Columbia on Dec. 12.
Kiersten Shaw scored all three goals and now has a total of 35 on the season. That puts her in second place in the state behind Poinciana’s Valerie Correa, who has 50.
Alee Horton recorded an assist, while goalkeeper Aspen Krohn made 15 saves.
The Indians (8-4) defeated their previous two opponents by a combined score of 16-1. In an 8-0 win at District 4-3A opponent Fort White, Ella Hutchins scored five goals, while Shaw recorded a team-high three assists.
Krohn made three saves.
On Dec. 9, Shaw scored six goals in an 8-1 win at district opponent Newberry.
Hutchins and Elizabeth Waughon each scored a goal, with Hutchins also recording four assists. Hutchins has 13 assists this season, which (as of Dec. 13) puts her in a two-way tie with Glades Day’s Hana Lohmann for third in the state. University Christian’s Abbey Mehm has 20 assists, while Bartram Trail’s Grace Ivey has 19.
Shaw and Waugon each had an assist as well in the win, while goalkeeper Miranda Yow made 10 saves.
Keystone travels to play district opponent Williston on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 5:30 p.m. and will travel to play Santa Fe on Friday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m.
