STARKE— Kathleen Olga Smith, 48, of Keystone Heights was sentenced to four years in prison and 14 years’ probation after pleading to DUI with serious bodily injury and DUI with property damage.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol charging affidavit, Smith was involved in a three-car collision within Bradford County on State Road 21 between Keystone Heights and Melrose on April 14, 2021. One of the vehicles involved was a truck hauling a boat.

Trooper J.A. Mobley wrote in the affidavit that when he interviewed Smith about the crash at UF Health in Gainesville, she had a thick tongue and bloodshot and watery eyes. Smith also spoke with slurred speech. According to Mobley, the defendant’s blood-alcohol level was .140.

The trooper added that at the time of his report, one of the victims of the crash told Mobley that surgeons placed metal rods in his leg due to a fractured femur, and he still walks with a limp.
