5 score in double figures for UCHS boys in 71-62 win over Hamilton

Montrell Woods posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the Tigers’ win over Hamilton County.

Tyrese Chandler led five players with double-digit points as the Union County High School boys basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 71-62 win at Hamilton County on Dec. 5.

The Tigers trailed by six at halftime, but outscored Hamilton 20-12 in the third quarter to go up 50-48. Union then outscored the Trojans 21-14 in the final quarter.

Chandler scored 19 points, while R.J. Odom and Garrison Smith each had 12 points. Adrian Manns and Montrell Woods had 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Jackson Andersen-Davis added six points.

It was a double-double for Woods, who grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. Manns and Chandler finished with nine and seven rebounds, respectively.

Odom and Smith led the Tigers in assists with seven each, with Smith also coming away with a team-high five steals.

Woods and Odom had four and three steals, respectively.

Union will host Fort White on Friday, Dec. 12, and Branford on Saturday, Dec. 13. Both games will tip off at 7:30 p.m. following junior varsity games at 6 p.m.

On Monday, Dec. 15, the Tigers host Dixie County in a triple header, with the JV boys playing at 4:30 p.m., the varsity girls playing at 6 p.m. and the varsity boys playing at 7:30 p.m.
