BHS, BMS have 5 place in top-10 at home invitational

Bradford Middle School’s Madison Kennedy and Axel Markwich almost won their races, while Bradford High School’s Tristan Holder and Alissa Reddish earned top-10 finishes at the Oct. 2 Bradford Cross Country Invitational, which was held at O.J. Phillips Recreation Complex in Lake Butler.

Kennedy placed second out of 42 in the middle school girls race with a time of 12:50, which left her trailing Suwannee Speed’s Olivia Hermanson, who had a time of 12:25.

BMS didn’t have a full girls team, but did have another top-10 finisher in Autumn Hunt, who had a seventh-place time of 14:35.

Madison Spencer and Kaydence Curtis also competed, finishing with times of 16:48 and 18:52, respectively.

BMS placed fourth in the boys team standings with a score of 93, leaving the Tornadoes trailing Oakleaf (43), Indian Trails (59) and Imagine (74). Peniel Baptist (108) and Belmont (116) placed fifth and sixth.

Markwich led the team, finishing as runner-up in the 47-member field with a time of 11:49. Lake City’s Nolan Martin took first with a time of 11:42.

BMS’ Koy Hartley and Tucker Griffis placed 11th and 18th, respectively, with times of 13:32 and 14:28. Mason Scoggins (16:00) and Jaden Williams (20:59) also competed.

In the 98-member high school boys race, BHS’ Holder ran a sixth-place time of 18:49, while teammate Jaleel Easley ran an 11th-place time of 19:02.

Jordan Barton and Silas Markwich earned 23rd- and 39th-place finishes for BHS, respectively, with times of 20:38 and 21:39.

Reddish earned an eighth-place finish for BHS in the girls race with a time of 24:18. The Tornadoes’ Natalie Thomas and Alyssa Hunt placed 15th and 16th, respectively, in the 77-member field with times of 26:05 and 26:14.

BHS’ Layne Loper (29:26) and Chadsity Stevens (33:40) also competed as the Tornadoes placed sixth in the team standings with a score of 136, which was just one point behind Baker County.

The top four teams were P.K. Yonge (21), Suwannee (92), Branford (107) and Ridgeview (123).

Crescent City (147), Keystone Heights (170) and Baldwin (200) placed behind BHS.
