Bradford Middle School’s volleyball team participated in its first-ever tournament, placing second in the Sliver Division at the Oct. 2 Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association’s Middle School Mayhem Tournament.
“I am extremely proud of the way these girls came together as a team and rose above all physical and mental challenges during their very first tournament,” said Head Coach Jamie Segars, who also gave a shout out to Christina Harris for making the tournament opportunity happen. “I couldn’t ask for a better team to grow with on our volleyball journey together. I love our team.”
Bradford, which finished fifth overall, began play in Pool A, defeating Duval Charter 2-0 (25-14, 26-24). The Tornadoes then lost 2-0 (25-12, 25-20) to Episcopal-IMSC, which placed them in the Silver Division. The Silver Division consisted of the second-place teams in pools A, B and C.
The Tornadoes’ first match in Silver play was a 2-0 (25-20, 27-25) loss to Pinewood Christian. Bradford bounced back to defeat Episcopal-Gold 2-0 (25-16, 25-10).
Riley Harris tallied 42 total assists for the day, while Raelynn Moore had 17.
Arnaysia Griffin led in attacking with 24 kills/tips. Shyde’ Williams and Talaysia Cummings recorded 18 and 13 kills/tips, respectively.
Cummings and Moore had 15 and 13 service aces, respectively, with Cummings also leading the team in successful serves with 21. Harris added eight aces, while Griffin and Allyssa Brady had six and four, respectively.
Harris had a total of 14 successful serves, while Brady and Moore also reached double figures in that category with 12 and 10, respectively. Griffin had eight successful serves.
Moore recorded 41 defensive digs/passes. Kendell Shanks and Griffin made 43 and 28 defensive plays, respectively, while Brady had 27 defensive passes/offensive assists. Kassady Arnette (a walk-on player from the BMS B team) had 15 defensive attempts/passes, while Harris added 11.
