Tigers to play for District 7-1A volleyball title

Top-seed Union County High School defeated fourth-seed Hilliard 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-21) in the semifinals of the District 7-1A volleyball tournament and will play second-seed Newberry for the championship on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at UCHS.

The Tigers (14-8) entered the tournament off sweeps of Baker County and Saint Francis

Union traveled to play Baker County on Oct. 11, winning 3-0 (29-27, 25-20, 25-13). Jaycee Davis and Sabrena Howard had 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Davis also led the team in digs with 16, while Jurney Crim and Howard had 14 and 11, respectively.

Howard and Davis also had four and three service aces, respectively.

Maegan Beatty recorded 23 assists. She and Chrissy Quiett had 11 and nine digs, respectively.

Howard led the team in kills (8) and digs (18) as the Tigers defeated visiting Saint Francis 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-23) on Oct. 12.

Addisyn Worrell and Davis had six and five kills, respectively, with Worrell recording nine digs and Davis recording seven. Davis also had three aces.

 Crim contributed 15 digs, while Caleigh Avery had three aces.

Beatty and Jordan Hendricks had 16 and eight assists, respectively, with Beatty also adding six digs.
