KHHS wins District 3-1A boys golf title, UCHS’ Zapp qualifies for regionals

Alex Addington placed third overall for Keystone Heights, which won the District 3-1A boys golf championship on Oct. 25 at Quail Heights Country Club in Lake City.

The Indians, who had a team score of 349, now advance to regional competition for the fifth time in four years. The top three teams and the top three individuals not on the top three teams will compete in the Region 1 finals on Monday, Nov. 1, at 8 a.m. at Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra.

Bradford finished one spot out of moving on with a fourth-place score of 388. That left the Tornadoes trailing Madison County (352) and Lafayette (358).

Union finished fifth with a score of 400, but will have one individual moving on in Caleb Zapp. Zapp had the fifth-lowest score overall and had the second-lowest score among individuals not on the top three teams.

The rest of the team standings consisted of Branford (410), St. Joseph Academy (444) and Taylor County (498).

Addington led the Indians with an 18-hole score of 81, which was a 10-stroke improvement from last year’s district match. He had a birdie and made par on eight holes.

Zapp had two birdies and made par on five holes, finishing with a score of 83. That was a 15-stroke improvement from last year’s district match.

Keystone’s Nick Binet made par on five holes and finished in a four-way tie for seventh with a score of 88. The Indians’ Nicholas Williams had an 11th-place score of 89. He had a birdie and made par on five holes.

Bradford’s Grady Johns, who had a birdie and made par on five holes, finished in a two-way tie for 12th with a score of 90. That was a 19-stroke improvement from last year.

Logan Spence shot a 91 for the Indians, which was good for 14th place. He had two birdies and made par on two holes in improving his score from last year by five strokes.

The Tornadoes’ Jacob Brugh and Jonathan Brugh, who each shot a 95, were part of a three-way tie for 17th. Jacob Brugh, who improved upon last year’s score by 10 strokes, made par on four holes, while Jonathan Brugh, who improved by 20 strokes, had a birdie and made par on two holes.

Keystone’s Shepherd Rozier, who made par on three holes, had a 21st-place score of 99.

Union’s Caleb Ripplinger finished in a two-way tie for 22nd with a score of 102. He made par on two holes in improving his score from last year by 26 strokes.

The Tigers’ Matthew Laux had a 25th-place score of 107.

A four-way tie for 26th place included Union’s Andrew Laux and Bradford’s Tommy Padgett and Cody Spratlin each shooting a 108.
