Union County schools celebrate Veterans Day

On Thursday, Nov. 11, at 9 a.m., the Union County School District will be holding its annual Veterans Day celebration in the UCHS auditorium. The school district is excited to honor local Veterans on this occasion through guest speakers, live performances by the UCHS band, and words of encouragement from the superintendent.

All Union County Veterans are invited to this celebration. Special parking will be reserved for veterans, their guests and the public in the lot adjacent to the auditorium.

Lt. Junior Grade Kamil A. Mazal, a native of Lake Butler, graduated from Union County High School in

May of 2014 as the salutatorian of her class. She reported to the United States Naval Academy in July of that year, representing Congressman Ted Yoho (FL-3). After completing her four years of schooling at the USNA, she earned her officer’s commission and a Bachelor’s of Science in political science with an emphasis in international relations and a language minor on May 25, 2018.

The September after commissioning, she reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola where she began flight school in February of 2019. She completed initial flight screening in April of 2019 and began aviation preflight indoctrination that same month.

After graduating from the aviation preflight indoctrination course in May of 2019, she reported to Milton, Florida, for primary flight training with Training Squadron Three (VT-3). In June of 2020, Mazal completed primary flight training. She reported to Corpus Christi, Texas, for multi-engine aviation training in the T-44 King Air with Training Squadron Thirty-One (VT-31) in July.

In March of 2021, upon completion of multi-engine training, Lieutenant Junior Grade Mazal reported to Kingsville, Texas, for jet training in the T-45 Goshawk. She is currently in her last phase of training before earning her Wings of Gold.
