KHHS girls improve to 7-1 with 61-14 win over Baker County

It was a standout defensive effort for the Keystone Heights High School girls basketball team, which defeated host Baker County 61-14 on Dec. 10.

The Indians (7-1) came up with 31 steals, with Emma Rogel leading the way with 11. Dezaray Bright and Kiley Channell had seven and six steals, respectively, while Lindsay Qualls had four.

Keystone shot only 27 percent from the field, but did go to the foul line 37 times, making 20 free throws.

Chanell led the team with 16 points, while Bright and Madi Mitzel had 13 and 12, respectively. Rogel scored seven points, with Qualls, Rexi Lewis and Rachel Roth each chipping in three. Riley Barry and Kasey Valentine each had two points.

Bright grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds, while Channell and Mitzel each had eight. Channell also had five assists.

The win capped a two-week period in which the Indians went 3-1.

Keystone suffered its first loss of the season on Nov. 30, with host Ridgeview handing the Indians a 49-40 defeat.

Channell and Rogel scored 21 and 10 points, respectively. Qualls had five points, while Bright and Mitzel each added two.

Bright and Channell grabbed six and five rebounds, respectively, while Channell also had four steals.

The Indians bounced back, getting 17 points, seven rebounds and six steals from Channell in a 41-37 win over visiting Palatka on Dec. 2.

Rogel and Mitzel had nine and seven points, respectively, with Qualls scoring three. Bright and Yasmin Bryant each added two points.

Bright had 10 rebounds, while Mitzel had five. Rogel and Qualls had five and three steals, respectively, with Qualls also adding three assists.

Keystone hosted Lake Weir on Dec. 7, with Channell and Rogel scoring 15 and 11 points, respectively, in a 46-40 win.

Mitzel had nine points, while Bright had five. Bryant, Qualls and Roth each added two points.

Bright had team highs in rebounds (18) and assists (five). Channell had nine rebounds and three steals, while Qualls and Mitzel each had seven rebounds. Rogel had five rebounds and five steals.

The Indians host Bradford on Thursday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. Their last game before Christmas break is at Union County on Friday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m.
