STARKE— A 24-year-old Starke man was arrested for arson after he admitted to help setting a fire at an East Call Street home to destroy evidence of earlier thefts.
Levi Jarrett Nelson, 24, was arrested for the April 21, 2020 offense. The residence belonged to a 90-year-old nursing home patient.
According to court papers, a state arson investigator located a witness to the fire who said Nelson started the blaze.
The investigator located Nelson at Union County’s Reception and Medical Center where he was an inmate.
Under questioning by the investigator, Nelson said he and another man had burglarized the East Call Street residence on two previous occasion and then became concerned about fingerprints left at the scene.
In a written statement, Nelson admitted to pouring gasoline in the home but claimed another man ignited the fire.
