Northside Christian Academy keep it close into the second quarter, but Joshua Christian began pulling away with a 12-4 run to close out the first half, eventually handing the Eagles a 55-35 loss on day two of the Lake Area McDonald’s-Kiwanis of Starke Christmas Basketball Tournament on Dec. 17 at Bradford High School.
Joshua made four three-pointers in the first quarter, which ended with a basket by Northside’s Caden Talton. That sent the Eagles (4-6) into the second quarter trailing 16-9. Waylen Kahakua scored the first basket of the second quarter. Talton later added two free throws to make the score 16-13.
Talton, who scored nine first-half points, added another free throw to make it an 18-14 game, but Joshua scored the next six points and would take a 12-point lead into halftime.
Kahakua made a three-pointer early in the third quarter, but that was in the midst of a 19-5 Joshua run.
Dustin Brown scored eight points in the fourth quarter to finish with a team-high 13 points, which he shared with Talton. Kahakua added seven points, while Caleb Talton had two.
The final day of the three-day tournament is today. Northside will play Clay at 5:30 p.m.
