Union County 4-H members have been spending time in the kitchen, perfecting their recipes for many types of goodies to show off and enter in the annual Holiday Bakeoff – and to all appearances they all got it right.

There were a total of 43 entries in the Dec. 6, 2021 competition, in a total of eight categories.  A winner was selected in each category, as well as an overall winner.

Reagan Williams took both top honors in the cupcake category, but also as the overall winner of the bakeoff.

Vivian Hunt took first for a decorated cake, while Paxton Graham created the winners in the cookies category.  Jacob Fretwell baked the best bread and Kalyn Reynolds created the winner in the best brownies/bar cookies category.  Emma Lane took top honors for her cake, while Josie Harlow did the same with her pie.  Malia Williams presented the best candy to fill out the field.

The competition was stiff, with all of the young people working hard to create and present the best item in its class.  After the competition the contestants put together a box of goodies, which was delivered to the Lake Butler Post Office in appreciation to the employees for all their hard work during the holiday season.  It’s a sure thing that judges, Karen Ann Norton and Stephen Wells, had a hard time deciding of which offerings were truly the best.
