It was a one-point game after the first quarter, but the Union County High School boys basketball team was outscored 38-20 in the second and third quarters, losing 55-38 to host Interlachen on Jan. 7.
Cole Andersen-Davis scored a team-high 11 points against the Class 3A Rams, while Thomas Williams had eight. Gavin Jenkins, Quinten Rawls and Curran Webb each scored four points, while Dee Williams had three. Kyler Cohen and Tahj Merriex each added two points.
Rawls dished out five assists to go along with four rebounds and two steals. Merriex had four assists and two steals, while Thomas Williams had four rebounds.
The Tigers (4-7) traveled to Middleburg for their first game after the holiday break, losing 74-70 to the 5A Broncos on Jan. 4 despite a 22-point game from Rawls.
Rawls was one of five players to score in double figures. Jenkins and Andersen-Davis had 13 and 11 points, respectively, while Merriex and Dee Williams each had 10.
Thomas Williams, who added four points, grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds, while Jenkins had five.
Merriex and Dee Williams each had five assists, while Rawls had three. Dee Williams and Rawls also had four and three steals, respectively.
On Jan. 6, Union lost 60-58 to visiting Baker County, which scored the winning basket with two seconds remaining in overtime.
Jenkins and Thomas Williams each scored 15 points against the 4A Wildcats, while Rawls had 10. Dee Williams added eight points, while Andersen-Davis and Webb had six and four, respectively.
Rawls added six assists and four steals to his totals, while Merriex, Dee Williams and Thomas Williams each had three assists. Merriex also had two steals.
The Tigers return to playing fellow Class 1A teams this week. They travel to play Hilliard on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 7:30 p.m. and return home to play Trenton on Friday, Jan. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Jan. 18, Union hosts Baldwin at 7:30 p.m.
