GREEN COVE SPRINGS— Clay County officials said they have hired a firm to survey the county’s 800 miles of paved roads.

The county said in a social media post that a pavement survey vehicle, operated by Applied Research Associates, includes the latest pavement scanning technology, including a 3D laser crack measurement system, a pavement surface profiler, high-definition cameras and an inertial navigation system coupled with a system-collecting, sub-meter accuracy GPS coordinates.

“This project will assist county engineers to evaluate and rank all 800 miles of paved roads, and subsequently help develop a pavement management plan to optimally utilize the pavement maintenance budget,” the county said in a post.
