STARKE— A 60-year-old Lincoln City man was arrested after a Ring camera system led police to his identity.

Lewis Alexander was arrested on Jan. 13 by Bradford deputies for the April 7, 2020, offenses of burglary and larceny.

According to court papers, a Raiford Road resident called Starke police after surveillance video revealed an unidentified man riding his bicycle to the home and entering the garage.

Starke Police Sgt. Michael Rooney wrote in a sworn affidavit that as he watched the video, he saw the suspect peddle a blue, beach-style cruiser bicycle with an umbrella tied to the top bar up to the home.

“The male then goes to the back of the northwest corner of the garage and begins to rummage around on top of a shelf,” Rooney wrote. “The male then places something in his pocket before the video ends.”

The homeowner also had a separate video of a lawn maintenance crew working at his home, with one of the crew members closely resembling the man in the garage.

Rooney contacted the owner of the lawn business, who identified Alexander as the man in both videos.

Rooney added that he attempted to contact the defendant at his home, but no one answered the door.

“Upon arrival, I observed a blue in color beach-style cruiser bicycle in plain view outside of the residence,” Rooney wrote.

The victim said the defendant took between $35 and $40 from a donation box that was in the garage.
