Three players scored in double figures as the Union County High School boys basketball team concluded the regular season with its sixth straight win, defeating visiting Middleburg 51-30 on Feb. 4.
The Tigers (11-11) play a District 6-1A quarterfinal game tonight against Fort White at 6 p.m. Union and Fort White are the fourth and fifth seeds, respectively, in the tournament, which is being hosted by Bell High School.
If Union defeats Fort White, it will play top-seed Bradford in a semifinal game on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m.
The championship game is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m.
In the win over Middleburg, the Tigers got 14 points and eight rebounds from Curran Webb, 12 points and three steals from Quinten Rawls and 10 points and six rebounds from Thomas Williams.
Gavin Jenkins added seven points and five rebounds, while Cole Andersen-Davis, Jay Cohen, Tahj Merriex and Dayviontae Thompson each scored two points.
Union played three games in all last week, which began with a 64-43 win over visiting Keystone Heights on Feb. 1.
The Tigers trailed 17-14 before outscoring Keystone 29-3 in the third quarter.
Jenkins scored 15 points, while Rawls and Williams had 14 and 13 points, respectively. Union also got eight points from Andersen-Davis, six points from Merriex, four points from Webb and two points each from Cohen and Thompson.
Merriex also recorded seven assists.
Webb grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, while Andersen-Davis and Williams had eight and seven, respectively. Jenkins added five rebounds.
On Feb. 3, the Tigers got 14 points and 11 points from Webb in defeating visiting Interlachen 50-48.
Williams led the team in scoring with 15 points. He and Andersen-Davis, who had four points, each grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Jenkins scored 12 points, while Rawls added five.
