Steer, heifer championship awards go to 5 youth at Bradford Fair

Walker Thompson, Ansley Ward and Tucker Dortch exhibited the top steers, while Adaleigh Wainwright and Kate Wainwright exhibited the top heifers at the Bradford Agricultural Fair’s steer and breed shows, which were held March 9 and March 10, respectively.

Thompson and Ward received the grand championship and reserve grand championship, respectively, in the steer show. Ward’s animal also received homegrown grand champion, while Dortch exhibited the homegrown reserve grand champion and third-place overall award.

Jordan Hamilton and Reese Wainwright earned fourth- and fifth-place overall awards, respectively, for their steers.

Adaleigh Wainwright received the grand championship and homegrown grand championship at the breed show, while Kate Wainwright received the reserve grand championship and the homegrown reserve grand championship.

The third-, fourth- and fifth-place overall heifers, respectively, were exhibited by Regan Broome, Thompson and Ward.

 

Overall performance, showmanship

The Zedra Hamilton family sponsored the two overall-performance awards, with Ward earning the steer award and Adaleigh Wainwright earning the breed award.

In the steer showmanship contest, Reese Wainwright placed first in the senior division, followed by Thompson and Chase Roberts. Shayna Durrance placed first in the intermediate division, followed by Bailey Varnes and Maddison Lee. Ward and Tripp Connell placed first and second, respectively, in the junior division.

In breed showmanship, Roberts placed first in the senior division, followed by Reese Wainwright and Thompson. Kate Wainwright placed first in the intermediate division, followed by Koy Hartley and Jacee Box. In the junior division, Ward placed first, followed by Adaleigh Wainwright and Weston Thompson.

A Workhorse Award was also presented to Connell for going above and beyond in regard to work in the barn and being a good citizen.

 

Weight-gain, record-book and herdsman

Garrison Ritch earned first place for steer weight gain, followed by Allie Salanci and Karlie Hardee.

Shyann Clemons and Broome placed first and second, respectively, in the senior division of 4-H steer record book. In the intermediate division, Durrance and Hailey Griffis were first and second, respectively. Ward was first in the junior division, followed by Halen McKinney.

On the breed side, Broome placed first in senior 4-H record book, while Durrance and Box were first and second, respectively, in the intermediate division. Weston Thompson placed first in the junior division, while Adaleigh Wainwright was second.

Walker Thompson and Hamilton were first and second, respectively, in high school FFA steer record book, while Landon Cason and Varnes were first and second, respectively, at the middle school level.

In high school FFA breed record book, Walker Thompson earned both the first- and second-place awards. Hartley was first at the middle school level, while Addison Wright was second.

Walker Thompson received the first-place senior herdsman award, with Hamilton and Reese Wainwright placing second and third, respectively. At the intermediate level, it was Durrance in first, followed by Hartley and Kate Wainwright, while at the junior level, Ward placed first, followed by Weston Thompson and Adaleigh Wainwright.
