In animal showing, goat are often the “starter” animals, with youngsters learning to care for and display their animals.  For this reason, as well as the fact that goats are not as big or hard to manage as cattle or swine, goat exhibitors tend to run a little younger as a rule.  For this reason, the 4-H youngsters, known as Clover Buds, also compete with their record books.  Cloverbud Record Book awards went to Lane Hartley, Wayne Hartley, Brycen Seay, Braxton Johnson, Sawyer Dyal, Ryder Akins, Madison Parker, Paxton Graham and Jackson Brewster.

The smallest animals shown, also often serving as “starter” animals, are the rabbits and poultry, and these animals are also judged.  The winners in these areas were: Grand Champion Poultry – Farrah Elixson, Reserve Grand Champion Poultry – Jamie-Lynn Courson, Grand Champion Rabbit – Clairabelle Martin and Reserve Grand Champion Rabbit – Dallas Williams.  Both types of animal were kept caged and judged individually by Danny Padgett, preventing a mass panic and exodus of furry and feathered animals.

The Board of Directors of UCLA were pleased with the show as it went, with a total of 117 exhibitors (including all events), including 20 goats.  Goats, rabbits and poultry are not auctioned for slaughter in the last day of the event, so they did not make up part of the total of 80 animals sold on March 19.

UCLA Board Members are: Benji Bennett, Heith Box, Kevin Box, Kenneth Cox, Matt Denson, Brad Dicks, Tad Durrance, George Dyal, Lisa Holtzendorf, Richard Kelley, Kristi McCallister, Jason Stalnaker, Pam Williams and Eric Wilson. The board would like to extend thanks to all of the buyer and people who worked the show and kept things running smoothly.  Special thanks go to Cargill Feeds and Jerry Mullins for sponsoring the cattle banners for the event.
