Union County High School recorded wins on the boys and girls sides during a March 17 match against Madison County, with the boys team winning 7-0 and the girls team winning 5-2.
In boys singles, Jody DuBose (number two), Jackson Crook (number three) and Parker Johnson (number five) all won 8-0. Number-one seed Landon Klein won 8-4, while number-four seed Trenton Klein won 8-1.
The number-one doubles team of DuBose and Alex Dure won 8-1, while the number-two team of James Rogers and KeAndre Stephens won 8-5.
Union won three of five singles matches on the girls side, with Morgyn Kirby and Lauren Coleman, the third and fourth seeds, each winning 8-0. Top seed Jordan Hendricks won 8-5.
Kirby and Taryn Norman teamed up for an 8-6 win at number-one doubles, while Lyndee Griffis and Jessica Kingsbury won 8-4 at number-two doubles.
The girls team broke a two-match losing streak with the win, but are 4-2 in the month of March, including a forfeit win over St. John Paul II on March 28. In a 5-2 win over Madison County on March 1, the Tigers won all five singles matches: Maegan Beatty 8-5, Hendricks 8-1, Josie Croft 8-2, Kirby 8-0 and Coleman 8-2. On March 3, Union defeated West Nassau 5-2. The doubles team of Beatty and Hendricks won 8-2, while the following wins were recorded in singles: Beatty 8-2, Hendricks 8-6, Kirby 8-2 and Coleman 8-2.
With the March 28 forfeit win over St. John Paul II, the boys team has now won three straight. Prior to the March 17 Madison match, the Tigers defeated Santa Fe 4-3 on March 14. Earning wins in singles were DuBose 9-7, Crook 8-1 and Caleb Zapp 8-0. The doubles team of DuBose and Dure won 8-3.
That proved to be Union’s second straight 4-3 win, with the first one occurring March 3 over West Nassau. The doubles team of Landon Klein and Crook won 8-8 (8-6), while the following wins were recorded in singles: Landon Klein 8-8 (7-2) Zapp 8-6 and Dure 8-2.
