Malcolm Odum won a championship for Union County High School, which earned a total of eight regional berths at the District 3-2A track and field running-events finals on April 21 at Santa Fe High School.
Odum’s top time of 22.47 in the 200m placed him ahead of Santa Fe’s Tyrique Robinson, who had a time of 22.63.
Union’s Martin Odum was also in the race, finishing third with a time of 23.25.
The top four finishers in each event will move on to the Region 1 finals on Thursday, May 5, at Tommy Oliver Stadium in Panama City.
Martin Odum was runner-up in the 400m with a time of 49.31, which left him trailing Santa Fe’s Trace Spires, who had a time of 49.11. Malcolm Odum was third with a time of 49.83.
Emma Jeffers earned a runner-up finish for the girls team, running the 1600m in 6:25. That left her trailing only Santa Fe’s Elizabeth Blitch, who had a time of 6:03.
Two boys relay teams earned regional berths, including the 4x400m team, which was second with a time of 3:43 to finish behind Santa Fe (3:33). The 4x100m team placed third with a time of 45.47.
Also qualifying for regionals was the girls 4x100m relay team, which ran a fourth-place time of 56.94.
Williams just missed out on the right to advance in the 110m hurdles, placing fifth with a time of 19.35. Suwannee’s Clay Starling earned the last regional spot with a time of 18.64.
The boys team got a pair of 10th-place finishes from Williams in the 100m (12.01) and Joseph Harris in the 1600m (5:34).
In the boys 800m, Konner Rossiter was 11th (2:36), while Harris was 12th (2:38).
On the girls side, Jeffers placed ninth in the 800m (2:58), while Mia Odum was 10th in the 200m (29.97). Jahlivah Woodall was 11th in the 100m (14.58), while CeCe Thomas was 14th in the 400m (1:16).
