KHHS loses despite no-hitter from Frampton, Mitzel

Caitlin Frampton and Madi Mitzel combined to pitch a no-hitter, but the Keystone Heights High School softball team lost 5-1 to host University Christian on April 22.

University took advantage of two walks, an error, a hit batter with the bases-loaded, a sacrifice bunt and a ground out to score four runs in the third inning. The host team added a run in the fifth on a hit batter, an error and a ground out.

Frampton (who started) and Mitzel each threw three innings, with Mitzel giving up one run and no walks, while striking out five.

Alaina Kinsal drove in the Indians’ lone run in the sixth inning. Her ground ball scored Abbie Roach, who reached on an error.

Jaiden Robinson had the only hit for Keystone.

The Indians had plenty of hits and runs to start the week, defeating visiting Interlachen 21-0 in 2.5 innings on April 19.

Keystone had 16 hits, including a two-run double by Emma Rogel as part of an eight-run first inning.

A 13-run second inning featured two two-run singles by Roach as well as a two-run double and a one-run single by Kinley Carlton.

Carlton and Roach went 3 for 3 and 2 for 4, respectively, with each driving in four runs. Rogel went 3 for 3 with three RBI, while Robinson went 2 for 3 with three RBI. Kinsal went 2 for 3 with two RBI.

Frampton, Kiley Channell and Kadance Massey-Hoadley each had one RBI.

In the circle, Mitzel gave up two hits and no walks, while striking out six.

On April 21, Roach drove in the game’s only run in a 1-0 win over visiting West Nassau.

Roach hit the third of three straight one-out singles in the third inning, with her hit scoring Robinson. She and Rogel each finished 2 for 3.

Mitzel pitched a complete game, giving up two hits and no walks.

The Indians travel to play Baker County on Tuesday, April 26, at 6 p.m. and will host Middleburg on Thursday, April 28, at 6 p.m. Keystone concludes the regular season with a home game against University Christian on Friday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m.
