Florida Crown has youth programs

CareerSource Florida Crown is proud to announce the return of its youth programs for the summer of 2022. The Why Try and Summer Youth Employment Programs are currently accepting applications, and this is how your child can join in. 

Why Try

Counties: Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist and Union

The Why Try program was created to provide simple solutions for children ages 11-15 in the following areas:

—dropout prevention.

—increased academic success.

—truancy reduction.

—violence prevention.

—drug and alcohol prevention.

Each child who fully participates in the program will receive a cash incentive.

 

Summer Youth Employment Program

The Summer Youth Employment Program employs teens ages 16 to 18 in local jobs within the Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist and Union counties. The program  is a continued partnership that CareerSource Florida Crown shares with the Lake City Police Department. Thanks to its initial success in Columbia County in 2018, CareerSource was able to expand the program to Dixie, Gilchrist and Union counties. This year, participants will be paid $12.50 an hour for six weeks of work.

The qualifications are as follows:

1. Must be age 16 – 18.

2. Must be enrolled in school, can be a graduating senior of 2022 or receiving a GED in 2022.

3. Must live in Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist or Union.

4. Must submit a completed application to CareerSource Florida Crown by May 20, 2022.
