Fatal crash leaves Lake Butler man dead

LAKE BUTLER — A late night crash at the intersection of SR 121 and SR 100 took the life of a Lake Butler man at 10:30 p.m. on May 2, 2022.

There are still many questions about the incident, including the positive identification of the driver of one of the vehicles.

According to the accident report issued by the Florida Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling south on SR 121, north of SR 100, directly behind another vehicle.The driver of the rearmost vehicle failed to slow for the traffic in front of them and collided with the vehicle in front, hitting it in the rear.The following vehicle traveled through the intersection with SR 100 and came to rest facing south on the east shoulder of SR 121.The vehicle that was struck from the rear rotated and came to final rest at the south end of the intersection, facing north.

The driver of the following vehicle left the scene of the accident on foot before the arrival of law enforcement and, as of press time, had not been identified.The driver of the vehicle struck from behind, a 35-year old man from Lake. Butler, sustained fatal injuries.He was wearing his seatbelt.

The incident is still under investigation by FHP.
