12-year-old critically injured in ATV crash

STARKE— The Florida Highway Patrol said a 12-year-old boy suffered a severe head injury after falling off an ATV on Monday, May 10.

In a news release, the agency said the boy was driving the vehicle north on Southwest 147th Avenue near County Road 18 around 7:45 P.M. when he fell off.

A 10-year-old passenger also riding on the four-wheeler with the older boy was not injured.

The 12-year-old was taken to UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

FHP said neither teen was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, which occurred between Graham and Brooker.
