The Union County High School Class of 1972 held its 50th reunion on April 30 at Lakeside Community Center in Lake Butler.
This close-knit class of 62 graduates has consistently held reunions every five years since their graduation. This year, 31 class members and 29 guests gathered to enjoy dinner and renew acquaintances.
A special table with pictures of class members who have passed away was set up. Shelia Jackson read aloud their names, while a moment of silence was held in their honor.
Gayle Bielling and Jan Philpot created a display of memorabilia, including uniforms and programs from high school sports and activities.
David Campbell welcomed everyone with humorous reminders of current events and activities from the 1970s and subsequent decades.
Roy Singletary of the Baggy Bottom Bunch, with assistance from Campbell and Eugene Watkins, entertained the group with songs and skits.
Steve Saunders greeted guests upon arrival and extended a special thank you to everyone who helped to make the event such a great success, especially Nanette Stalnaker, who catered an amazing dinner, and Ardry Henderson, who created a beautiful purple-and-gold balloon archway and table centerpieces.
Recognition was also made of Coach Sam Lee and his wife, Carolyn, who were special guests. Lee taught math to many of the class members and coached many of the young men in several sports.
Class members extended God’s richest blessings for health and happiness to each other until the next reunion in 2027.
