Plane makes emergency landing near Camp Blanding

CAMP BLANDING— The pilot of a single-engine plane made an emergency landing on State Road 16, near State Road 21 on Thursday, June 2.

The pilot told a Jacksonville television station he took off from a Jacksonville airport and lost power at an altitude of 2,200 feet. After failing to find a field or other suitable landing spot, the pilot guided the plane to the roadway, avoiding traffic and power lines. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office towed the plane off the highway.

WJXT reported that after mechanics determined the aircraft was fit to fly, Clay deputies cleared State Road 16 of traffic and the pilot took off from the highway.
