MIDDLEBURG— A multi-vehicle crash on State Road 21 Monday morning killed two pedestrians, including a 48-year-old Lawtey woman.
The Florida Highway Patrol said that just before noon, a southbound car waiting to turn left onto South Periwinkle Avenue was rear ended by another vehicle, forcing it into the path of a northbound truck hauling a shed.
The second collision forced the truck hauling the shed onto the shoulder of the highway, where it struck a member of a crew picking up litter and the crew’s truck parked on the side of the road. The truck then hit a second pedestrian looking for a lost cell phone.
The crew member was pronounced dead at the scene. The second pedestrian later died at a hospital.
The collision occurred just south of the intersection of State Road 21 and County Road 215.
The drivers of all four vehicles were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
