Qualifying closes leaving 5 local races

STARKE – With qualifying over, here is how races for Starke and Bradford County took shape.

Starke Commissioner Shannon Smith was unopposed for the District 3 seat, giving him a second term on the board. District 1 incumbent Danny Nugent will run against Michael Heeder, and District 5 is a race between Randy Cres, Andy Redding and Lex Sanders. 

These races are nonpartisan, as is the District 5 School Board race between incumbent Erica Reddish and Lynn Melvin. Board Members Sheila Cummings and Gayle Nicula in Districts 1 and 2 were unopposed.

County District 2 will see incumbent Commissioner Kenny Thompson face Larry Davis and Mark Williams. In District 4, incumbent Commissioner Danny Riddick will be running against Tom Germano, Christiann Hudson and Trish Tucker. 

All these candidates are Republicans.

Sherman Carnes, Oksun Burks, Amy Morie and Paul Still all qualified to serve on the Bradford Soil and Water Conservation District unopposed. 

The primary is coming up on Aug. 23. Early voting will begin on Aug. 8.
