Dobbs running for Union County Commission

Channing Dobbs

The following is a paid announcement of intent to seek public office submitted by the candidate. The deadline for all submissions has passed. To advertise, please call 904-964-6305 or email [email protected].

My name is Channing Dobbs and I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the position of Union County Commissioner for District 2. It has been a privilege and an honor to serve as your commissioner for the past four years.

I have been blessed to call Union County home my entire life. I am a fifth-generation resident of Union County and a member of the Union County High School graduating class of 2007. My family and I are members of First Baptist Church of Sanderson. My wonderful wife is Kayla Dobbs (Freeman) and we have four beautiful daughters: Pamela (10), Raelynn (6), Ramsey Kay (5), and Madeline (1).

Since my time in office, Union County now participates in Rural County Days. This is a day set aside in Tallahassee for rural counties to come together to promote awareness to the Florida Legislature of the needs of small counties. During this event, we can make others aware of the contributions that small counties make to the state.

Other commissioners and I found this to be a benefit for Union County by building relationships with our legislators, as well as other leadership in Tallahassee. These relationships have assisted in an additional 1.5 million dollars in funding for the widening project for NCR 229, which will also include a bridge replacement on SCR 229. We’ve also used funds restricted for transportation to improve the county’s fleet and purchase new equipment. While doing this, we have also strived to boost employee morale and reduce turnover, which has allowed the county to improve road maintenance.

During one of our meetings, I moved that the board adopt Resolution 2019-05 which declares that Union County recognizes the importance of the Second Amendment and preserves the right of the people of Union County to keep and bear arms. The board passed this resolution unanimously.

Having established a good working relationship with the other board members, collectively, we strive to maintain a balanced budget without incurring debt. I believe in leaving the county better than I found it by not taking on debt at the expense of our future generations.

I’m proud of the work we have accomplished in the last 4 years and look forward to years to come. I want to thank you all for your support and humble ask for your vote on August 23 for District 2 County Commissioner. I look forward to talking to each of you in the months to come.
