STARKE — A new urgent care center is currently under construction across from the Walmart Supercenter in Starke.
A house was demolished at the corner of U.S. 301 and Southeast 48th Avenue to make way for the health care facility.
Deerwood Subdivision residents opposed the commercial rezoning of that and other lots in the subdivision. Originally, most county commissioners agreed, but a lawsuit was filed with a judge finding there was no evidence presented to support the application’s denial. The commission was ordered to approve the rezoning.
The site plan was submitted by Rural Urgent Care LLC of Birmingham, Alabama. It depicts a 3,256 square-foot building fronting U.S. 301 with parking in the rear and ingress and egress from Southeast 48th Avenue.
According to an internet search, Rural Urgent Care has nearly 20 centers open in Alabama and Florida.
