STARKE— The Department of Corrections said a correctional officer near Tallahassee uncovered packages that had been delivered by an airborne drone into the facility.  The discovery subsequently led to the seizure of weapons, drugs and cell phones.

FDC said Officer Brian Willis noticed unusual objects in a recreational softball field at Wakulla Correctional Institution and walked over to the area to investigate.

“Upon further inspection,” the agency said, “he discovered the packages contained contraband and were a result of a drone drop due to the strings attached.”

The corrections agency said the following day, officers conducted a mass search at Wakulla’s main unit that uncovered homemade alcohol, marijuana, mobile phones, cigarettes and improvised weapons. Photo: FDC

FDC said the packages, which were disguised to look like grass, contained eight grams of Methamphetamine, 33 grams of the synthetic marijuana K2, 538 grams of tobacco, three smartphones, two cell phone charging cables and six lighters.

The corrections agency said the following day, officers conducted a mass search of Wakulla’s main unit. That operation uncovered homemade alcohol, nearly 40 grams of marijuana, six mobile phones, four cigarettes and three improvised weapons.
