Local agencies: new suicide prevention line open

STARKE— Area law enforcement agencies and fire-rescue departments, including the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office and Fire-Rescue, announced the opening of a new phone line designed to prevent suicides.

988 is now active across the United States. The new, shorter phone number will make it easier for people to remember and access mental health crisis services. The previous 1-800-273-TALK (8255) number will continue to function indefinitely.

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline Network. The counselors will listen, provide support and connect callers to other resources if necessary.
