Elections office using accessible ballot

GREEN COVE SPRINGS— Supervisor of Elections Chris Chambless said his office is now using new ballots that will make it easier for voters with disabilities to participate in elections.

The system is compatible with accessibility devices such as speech input software, screen readers and screen magnifiers. It allows voters to fill out their ballots on their home computer screens, print out their ballot documents and send it into the elections office to be counted.

Chambless said other upgrades to his office’s procedures include an auditing machine that provides fast recounts independent of the office’s tabulation machines, and printing mail-in ballots on demand rather than mass printing them.
