STARKE— Thomas Daniel Clarke, 39, of Lawtey, was sentenced to one year in prison for the March 29 offense of providing false information for pawned items. The state dropped a related charge of dealing in stolen property.
According to a sworn complaint, the defendant cut off the catalytic converter from a truck owned by his sister’s boyfriend and attempted to sell the item to a Lake Butler man.
Before the sale was complete, the buyer called a Union deputy and put his phone on speaker so the officer could listen in on and record the transaction.
After the sale was complete, deputies arrested the defendant and recovered the $591 he received for the converter.
