Union County High School’s volleyball team played in the Lady Bulldog Invitational at Bell High School, winning its first two matches and finishing with a 2-1 record.
The Tigers opened play by defeating Trenton 2-0 (25-10, 25-22) on Sept. 16. Jaycee Davis had 10 kills and eight digs, while Jordan Hendricks had six digs and 15 assists. Bella Johns and Jurney Crim had nine and seven digs, respectively. Kamryn Southerland added six assists, while Emily Wilson had five kills.
Union then got five kills and nine digs from Davis in defeating Lafayette 2-0 (25-9, 25-15) on Sept. 16. Crim added six digs, while Hendricks and Southerland had seven and six assists, respectively. Jailyn Simmons had five kills.
Columbia, which would win the tournament, defeated the Tigers 2-0 (25-18, 25-20) on Sept. 17. Davis had eight kills and 10 digs, while Crim and Johns each had five digs. Southerland and Hendricks recorded 10 and six assists, respectively.
Union bounced back to defeat P.K. Yonge 2-0 (25-17, 25-13) on Sept. 17. Davis had nine kills, while Simmons and Wilson each had six. Davis and Southerland had seven and six digs, respectively, while Johns and Wilson each had five. Southerland had 11 assists, while Hendricks had nine. Crim added five service aces.
The Tigers entered the tournament off a 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18) loss to last year’s Class 1A state runner-up — Pierson Taylor — on Sept. 13 in Lake Butler. Davis recorded 24 digs and 13 kills to go along with two blocks. Johns and Crim had 23 and 16 digs, respectively, while Southerland had 10 digs to go along with 19 assists and four aces.
Simmons and Layla Barber had eight and seven kills, respectively, with Simmons adding three blocks.
Hendricks had 13 assists.
The Telegraph-Times-Monitor covered the Tigers’ Sept. 12 loss to Baker County in its Sept. 15 issue, but official stats weren’t available by deadline. Davis had 18 kills and 21 digs, while Simmons had eight kills and four blocks.
Hendricks and Southerland each had 15 assists. Hendricks added 14 digs, while Southerland had 10.
Crim and Wilson had 17 and 10 digs, respectively, while Rylie Parrish had seven kills.
Barber added two blocks.
