Union County High School’s volleyball team went 3-0 against all larger schools in winning the Sept. 24 Suwannee High School Classic.
Jaycee Davis was, who had a total of 25 kills and 25 digs, was named tournament MVP as the Tigers improved to 13-5. Jurney Crim, who had a total of 16 digs, was named to the all-tournament team.
The Tigers began play with a 2-0 (25-8, 25-7) win over Tallahassee’s Community Christian. Davis and Rylie Parrish each had three kills. Emily Wilson had 12 service aces, while Jailyn Simmons had five.
Crim led the team in digs with four, while Davis, Wilson and Jordan Hendricks each had three.
Kamryn Southerland had seven assists.
Davis recorded 10 kills and 15 digs in a 2-0 (25-23, 25-19) win over Class 3A Bradford. Crim and Southerland had eight and seven digs, respectively, while Hendricks had five. Southerland had 11 assists, while Crim and Hendricks each had four.
Davis led the team in aces with four, while Wilson and Crim had three and two, respectively.
The Tigers wrapped up the championship by defeating host Suwannee (Class 4A) 2-0 (25-20, 25-11). Davis had 12 kills, nine digs and three aces, while Wilson had five kills and two blocks. Southerland and Hendricks had 14 and six assists, respectively, while Crim had four digs.
Union travels to play District 6 opponent Bell on Monday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m. before returning home to play district opponent Branford on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 p.m. The Tigers travel to play Williston on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. The Tigers return home to play Trenton on Monday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
The Tigers host Trenton on Monday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m. and Dixie County on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m.
Junior varsity matches will precede each match at 5:30 p.m. with the exception of the Bell match, which will have the JV match beginning at 5 p.m.
