STARKE — Bradford’s newest school board member, Lynn Melvin, was sworn in alongside returning board members Sheila Cummings and Gayle Nicula.

Melvin joins the board after a lifetime dedicated to education. She was a teacher in Bradford schools, where she was also educated. She went on to lead Starke and Brooker elementary schools as principal, retiring after 35 years on the job.

He daughter-in-law, Cassie, is currently principal at Southside Elementary.

Melvin ran on her experience and her promise to be an active and supportive school board member.

“I’m honored to represent the residents of District 5 as a school board member for the next four years,” she said, adding she was looking forward to working with Superintendent Will Hartley and her fellow school board members. “I’m also excited to meet and work with our employees in our schools, and I am especially excited to get to know our students and celebrate their successes.

County Judge Tatum Davis led the school board members through the oath of office Nov. 22 and joined returning county commissioners Kenny Thompson and Danny Riddick for their ceremony on Dec. 6.
