Ar’Nayshia Griffin scored five straight points during a 10-4 run to close out the game as the Bradford High School girls basketball team defeated visiting Williston 38-31 on Dec. 8.
The Tornadoes (5-1) watched a five-point lead in the third quarter disappear. Williston’s Tiny Brown knocked down two free throws and then scored on a layup to make it a one-point game before the Red Devils’ Maci Vonderstrasse drove to the basket for another score and a 22-21 Williston lead.
Bradford’s Nichelle Brown scored twice following her own steals to help the Tornadoes go into the fourth quarter leading 28-24. Teammate Destiny Crum knocked down a three-pointer in between Brown’s two baskets.
Williston pulled to within one before Griffin scored off her own steal. Griffin then grabbed a defensive rebound at the other end and dribbled the length of the floor before pulling up for a short jumper to make the score 32-27. She later added a free throw as she finished the game with seven points.
The Devils’ Brown drove the baseline for a score, while Delicia Dallas made a jump shot as Williston closed the Tornadoes’ lead to two.
A steal by Bradford’s Ayanna Pringle led to a Nichelle Brown basket on a runout, putting Bradford up 35-31 with 1:20 to play.
Brown led the Tornadoes with 13 points.
Jada Hankerson added an exclamation point on the victory with a three-pointer before the buzzer.
Ajiyah Jackson and Hankerson finished with six and five points, respectively, while Pringle had four. Crum added three points.
Bradford entered the game off a 58-45 win over visiting Dunnellon on Dec. 6. Three players scored in double figures — Brown with 15 points, Crum with 13 points and Pringle with 12 points.
Griffin and Jackson each scored eight points, while Kimber Woods added two.
The Tornadoes travel to play Bishop Snyder on Monday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. Bradford then travels to play Paxon on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m.
