Union County High School’s wrestling team took part in the Dec. 17 Tiger Duals at Columbia High School, placing fourth behind Clay, Mosely and Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The Tigers took a 48-20 win over the host team, with three wrestlers pinning their opponents: Jonathan Howard (113-pound class) in 55 seconds, Braden Adams (126) in 2:28 and Colin Hadlock (160) in 1:32. Columbia forfeited five classes.
In a 54-24 win over Liberty County, Ephriam Frometa (285) pinned his opponent in 1:17. The rest of the Tigers’ wins were due to Liberty forfeiting eight classes.
Union had seven wrestlers record pins in a 43-42 loss to Hilton Head: Howard in 1:46, Adams in 1:38, Wyatt Elixson (132) in 1:40, Ethan Shea (138) in 37 seconds, Dante Johnson (152) in 1:09, Alexander Cortese (182) in 3:41 and Danny Thornton (195) in 24 seconds.
Clay defeated Union 72-12, with Shea recording a win by pinning his opponent in 5:06. Clay forfeited one class.
The Tigers had three wrestlers pin their opponents in under a minute in a 48:36 win over Mosley: Howard in 46 seconds, Adams in 44 seconds and Hadlock in 38 seconds.
Shea and Frometa also pinned their opponents in 2:27 and 1:07, respectively.
Mosley forfeited three classes.
