Hope Christian boys suffer 1st loss after 6-0 start to season

Hope Christian Academy has been rolling in boys basketball, with the Lions winning their first six games before a 72-60 loss to Ludowici, Georgia’s Faith Baptist Christian on Dec. 20.

After opening the season with a 28-22 win over Northside Christian (which was covered in the Dec. 8 issue of the Telegraph-Times-Monitor), the Lions defeated visiting Westwood Christian of Live Oak 76-25 on Dec. 1. Marcus Chever and Jude Hanson scored 23 and 20 points, respectively, while Dalton Thomas scored 11 points.

The Lions also got seven points from Aiden Wilson, six points from Zach Hansen, four points from Traven Chandler, three points from Julio Casielles and two points from Tavian Frazier.

Frazier, Hanson and Wilson each grabbed eight rebounds, while Thomas and Hansen had seven and six, respectively. Frazier also had a team-high six assists, while Chever had five. Chever led the team in steals with four, while Frazier and Thomas each had three.

On Dec. 6, Chever poured in 31 points in a 71-69 win at Gainesville Christian Community.

Hanson and Thomas had 16 and 10 points, respectively. Wilson scored six points, while Chandler and Frazier each added four.

Chever finished with a double-double as he added 12 rebounds to his stats. Chandler led the team in rebounds with 16, while Hanson had 10. Frazier finished with six rebounds.

Hanson led the team in assists with eight and steals with four.

The Lions defeated host Corinth Christian in Jasper on Dec. 8, with Chever and Hanson scoring 25 and 10 points, respectively.

Thomas and Frazier had nine and eight points, respectively, while Wilson had six. Chandler added four points, while Hansen chipped in two.

Chandler and Frazier each grabbed six rebounds, with Frazier also dishing out three assists.

Chever and Hanson each had three assists as well, with Chever also coming up with four steals.

Hope won its sixth game of the season when it defeated host Old Plank Christian 42-32 on Dec. 12 in Jacksonville.

Chever had 15 points, while the Lions also got eight points from Wilson, six points each from Chandler and Frazier, five points from Thomas and two points from Hanson.

Frazier grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds. Chandler and Wilson each had seven, while Hanson had six.

The Lions host Old Plank on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. Hope returns to action after the Christmas break with a road game against High Springs’ First Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 6 p.m. The Lions play home games against Byne Christian (Albany, Georgia) on Friday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. and Corinth Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 7:30 p.m.
