KHHS soccer teams off to strong start after the break

Keystone Heights High School’s soccer teams have gotten off to quite a start following the Christmas/New Year’s break, as the boys and girls have won four matches by a combined score of 29-2.

The girls team improved to 12-4 with home wins over Suwannee on Jan. 3 and Menendez on Jan. 5.

Kiersten Shaw scored five goals in a 6-1 win over Suwannee, which also featured goal keepers Aspen Krohn and Miranda Yow making seven and three saves, respectively.

Elizabeth Waughon scored a goal as well, while the following recorded one assist each: Alee Horton, Carly Rogers and Schiley Starling.

Shaw put the ball in the net five times again in a 9-1 win over Menendez. She also had three assists.

Ella Hutchins scored three goals, while Horton scored one. Each player had an assist.

Dallas Decrosta recorded two assists, while Waughon had one.

Yow and Krohn made five and two saves, respectively.

It was Keystone’s fourth straight win and seventh in its last eight matches.

The boys team, which improved to 7-3-2, got a strong effort from Logan Spence, who scored seven goals in road wins over Baker County on Jan. 3 and Interlachen on Jan. 5.

Spence and Aaron Wiley scored three and two goals, respectively, in a 6-0 win over Baker. Each player also had one assist.

Skylar Kedgley had one goal and one assist, while the following had one assist each: Bryce Huntley, Pelayo Martinez and Micah Wiley.

In an 8-0 win over Interlachen, Spence had four goals and one assist, while Kedgley had two goals and two assists.

Martinez and Aaron Wiley each had one goal. Wiley and Luke Brunt each recorded two assists.

 Both teams play at home against Williston on Monday, Jan. 9. The girls team plays at 5 p.m., followed by the boys match at 7 p.m.
