KEYSTONE HEIGHTS— Three Clay Electric trustees were nominated without opposition to the utility’s board, and a new candidate is also running without an opponent.

Cindy Loose is the daughter of former trustee Carl Hagglund, who died last year. Loose was the only candidate nominated for her late father’s seat during a District 1 meeting in Keystone Heights on Jan. 6.

Loose graduated from Keystone Heights High School in 1989, is a University of Florida graduate, and obtained a master’s degree.

The Keystone High mathematics instructor is also a former KHHS Teacher of the Year and has served as the school’s math department chair since 2009.

At the District 6 meeting in Middleburg, incumbent trustee Jimmy Wilson was nominated without opposition. He was first elected to the board in 2014.

At the District 2 meeting in Palatka, incumbent trustee Kelley Smith was nominated without opposition. The former Florida House of Representatives member was first elected to the board in 1987. He currently serves as the board’s secretary.

At the District 4 meeting in Alachua, incumbent trustee Carl Malphurs was nominated without opposition. He currently serves as the board president and was first elected in 2010.
