Leah Clark won her weight class, while seven of her teammates placed either second, third, fifth or sixth at the District 6-1A girls weightlifting meet, which was held Jan. 28 at St. Johns Country Day School.

Clark, who was the third-best pound-for-pound lifter at the meet, won the 139 class in the traditional event (bench press and clean and jerk) with an overall total of 270 (130 bench press, 140 clean and jerk), automatically qualifying for the Region 2 meet, which will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, at 9 a.m. at West Nassau High School.

At-large Region 2 qualifiers in each weight class will be announced at a later date.

The Tigers finished fourth in the team standings with a score of 27. Ten of those points came from Hailey Rivera and Taleya Smith finishing as runners-up in their classes. Rivera had a 185 total (80, 105) in the 119 class, while Smith had a 245 total (120, 125) in the 154 class.

Rivera scratched on two bench-press attempts at 90 pounds. If she had gotten that total, she would’ve won her class.

Holly Halfacre had a 155 total (65, 90) to place third in the 119 class, while the following placed fifth: Stefani Nash with a 115 total (50, 65) in the 101 class and Gracelyn Manning (199) with a 240 total (120, 120) in the 199 class.

Hayle Burke and Jaira Highland placed sixth in the 154 and 199 classes, respectively. Burke had a 205 total (95, 110), while Highland had a 240 total (120, 120).

Also competing for the Tigers were Jeanette Allen with a 180 total (90, 90) in the 129 class, Hannah Rivera with a 180 total (85, 95) in the 129 class and Addison Wright with a 175 total (85, 90) in the 139 class.
