6 from BHS, UCHS earn Region 2-1A at-large bids in girls weightlifting

Bradford High School’s Allie McFarland and Union County High School’s Hayley Burke, Jaira Highland, Gracelyn Manning, Hailey Rivera and Taleya Smith will compete at the Region 2-1A girls weightlifting finals, which will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, at 9 a.m. at West Nassau High School.

Four Bradford lifters earned automatic berths by winning their weight classes at the District 6 finals: Rylie Blankenship (110 class), Gabby Oliver (169), Takeirra Bakken (199) and Brianna Brooks (unlimited). They will be joined at the region event by McFarland, who received an at-large berth in the 169 class.

The Tigers had one automatic qualifier in Leah Clark (District 6 champion in the 139 class) and will now have six total compete at the Region 2 meet, with the following earning at-large berths: Rivera (119), Smith (154), Burke (154), Manning (199) and Highland (199).

At-large berths were determined by comparing the totals from all four district meets in Region 2.
