Bradford High School had no trouble emerging victorious on the last night of the regular season in girls basketball, scoring as many points in the first half as visiting Fort White did for the game in a 50-24 win on Jan. 20.
The Tornadoes (10-9) opened the game with a three-pointer by Ayanna Pringle and scored 13 of the first 15 points of the opening quarter.
Bradford led by only seven entering the second quarter, but started pulling away with a 7-1 run. Jada Hankerson scored off a turnover. Then, after Ajiyah Jackson made free throw, the Tornadoes got baskets from Nichelle Brown and Ar’Nayshia Griffin.
Kailyn Teal scored off an offensive rebound at the end of the half to send Bradford into halftime leading 24-9.
Griffin scored six of her game-high 15 points in the third quarter as the Tornadoes increased their lead to 22 points. Griffin also had two steals in the quarter.
Kimber Woods, who, along with Pringle, was honored as part of Senior Night, made two three-pointers in the fourth quarter. Pringle and Woods finished with seven and six points, respectively.
Bradford also got six points from Brown, five points each from Hankerson and Jackson, four points from Teal and two points from Destiny Crum.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak.
Bradford is the third seed in the District 2-3A tournament. The Tornadoes play at second seed Trinity Catholic on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 6 p.m. If Bradford wins, it will play top seed P.K. Yonge for the championship on Friday, Feb. 3, at P.K. Yonge. Tip-off time wasn’t known as of this posting.
