Goalkeeper Aspen Korhn stopped shot after shot and kept top seed P.K. Yonge off the board in the first half, but the Blue Wave got four goals from Faith Hardy in the second half as the Indians lost 6-1 in the District 4-3A championship match at P.K. Yonge on Feb. 2.
Krohn made 20 saves before walking off the field to a round of applause by the Keystone fans when she was replaced by Miranda Yow in the 71st minute. More than half her total occurred in the first half as the Indians (19-5) were constantly on the defensive. Keystone attempted only five shots on goal for the entire match.
P.K. Yonge (12-4-1), which was also thwarted by numerous offsides violations, saw Krohn make three saves in the final two minutes of the first half, including one in the final five seconds. Krohn stopped a shot in the 42nd minute when play resumed, but the Blue Wave finally found the net, with Hardy recording an assist on the first goal of the match off a corner kick. That occurred in the 47th minute. Approximately a minute later, Hardy scored to put the Blue Wave ahead 2-0.
Hardy added another goal in the 54th minute before the Indians got their lone goal when Kiersten Shaw scored off a Dallas DeCrosta assist in the 61st minute.
P.K. Yonge scored three goals in the final 12 minutes.
Though they came up short, the second-seed Indians earned an at-large Region 1 playoff berth. Keystone, the seventh seed in the eight-team region, will travel to play second seed Bolles in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m.
