Auntrell Ross crossed the line in first place in both the 100m and 200m dashes, helping the Union County High School boys track and field team to a second-place finish at a Feb. 27 track and field meet hosted by Chiefland High School.
The Tigers had a team score of 58 to finish behind Chiefland, which had 105 points. Union finished ahead of Hamilton County (55), Newberry (20) and Trenton (17).
Ross ran the 100m in 11.61 and the 200m in 23.50. He was also the runner-up in the long jump with a distance of 5.72 meters.
The 4x400m relay team of Brycen Boney, Robert Thomas, Blake McCoy and Dayquan Diston took second with a time of 4:01. Union also had individual runners-up in Joseph Harris in the 1600m (5:41) and Ibn Williams in the triple jump (9.99).
Harris and Williams also had fourth-place finishes: Harris in the 800m (2:33) and Williams in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches).
Thomas Williams earned points in three events, placing third in the 110m hurdles (19.54) and high jump (4-11) and fourth in the long jump (5.29).
Earning fifth-place finishes were Diston in the 200m (24.61), Thomas in the 400m (57.74) and high jump (4-8), and Drew Simmons in the 100m (12.04).
The following didn’t earn points, but did place in the top 10: Boney seventh in the 400m (58.36) and ninth in the 200m (25.07), Davien Pressley seventh in the 100m (12.29) and ninth in the 400m (59.23), Matthew Ring seventh in the 1600m (6:19), McCoy eighth in the 400m (59.16), Damon Ferrer eighth in the 1600m (6:30), Gavin Smith eighth in the 800m (2:46), Thomas Williams eighth in the 100m (12.46), Thomas ninth in the long jump (4.78), Wyatt Boehne 10th in the 200m (25.14) and Rayvon Durant 10th in the 100m (12.54).
